June 11, 2024 - Lulzim Basha, leader of the Democratic Party, has vowed to continue the battle for a better Albania despite the Court of Appeal's decision to recognize Sali Berisha as party leader. In a statement before a meeting with party officials, Basha emphasized that the fight is not about symbols, but about the ideals of democracy.
"We are for something greater," Basha said. "Today, it is clearer than ever that Albania deserves much more. We will do everything we have at our disposal to continue the battle for a better Albania."
Basha refused to comment on the court's decision, instead focusing on the next steps. He stated that the decisions for the next steps will be discussed with colleagues and will be in line with the commitment to democrats. The goal is to remove the current government and open up perspectives.
When asked about the possibility of creating a new political force, Basha did not give a direct answer. Instead, he reiterated his commitment to the ideals of democracy and the fight for a better Albania.
The Court of Appeal in Albania made a crucial decision today, recognizing Sali Berisha, leader of the Democratic Party of Albania. This significant ruling comes after nearly three years of intense clashes within the opposition camp.
Berisha, a former Prime Minister, has made a strong comeback in politics following Lulzim Basha's decision to expel him from the PD parliamentary group in 2021.
