US beat Paraguay 4-1 in World Cup opener

The United States began their home World Cup with a 4-1 win over Paraguay at SoFi Stadium.

The hosts went ahead early through an own goal before Folarin Balogun scored twice before half-time.

Paraguay pulled one back in the second half, but the US scored again in stoppage time to close out the win.

The result puts the United States top of Group D after their first match.

The game followed the tournament’s opening ceremony. Local reports said President Donald Trump was not at the stadium but had spoken to the US squad before kick-off.
