Foreign interference is distorting Albanian protests, says PM

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has accused foreign anti-American and antisemitic groups of trying to distort environmental protests in Albania.

Speaking at a rally marking the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party’s founding, Rama said the protests were “genuine” and Albanian, but claimed outside groups were trying to use them against the country’s interests.

He said those groups wanted to turn Albania into a platform against the United States, US investment and Israel.

Rama said Albania’s international standing was at its strongest under the Socialists, citing ties with the US, the European Union, Israel, Turkey and countries in the Middle East.
