Hungary lifts block on Ukraine and Moldova EU talks

The European Union will restart membership talks with Ukraine and Moldova next week after Hungary lifted its block.

EU ambassadors agreed on Friday that talks with both countries will resume in Luxembourg on Monday.

Ukraine and Moldova want to join the EU as a long-term security guarantee against Russia.

The talks had been delayed by Hungary’s opposition to Ukraine’s bid.

EU leaders said both countries had continued reforms despite the pressure of war and Russian influence.

The first stage will focus on the rule of law and other core conditions for joining the bloc.
