Storms flood roads and damage buildings across Greece

Severe storms hit Greece on Friday, flooding roads, damaging buildings and bringing down trees.

More than 100,000 lightning strikes were recorded over land and sea.

Athens and parts of central and northern Greece were hit by heavy rain, strong winds and hail.

In one town, winds tore a metal roof from a building and carried it about 100 metres.

A tornado was reported near the Halkidiki coast.

Authorities sent emergency alerts and told people in several regions to limit travel.

Further hail and local flash floods were possible into early Saturday.
