Kosovo court rejects appeals against June election results

Kosovo’s Supreme Court has rejected all appeals against the results of the June 7 snap parliamentary election.

The Central Election Commission is expected to certify the vote on Wednesday.

Vetëvendosje won 47.13% and 53 seats in the 120-seat parliament. The Democratic Party of Kosovo won 22 seats, the Democratic League 18 and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo 7.

After certification, parliament can convene and talks on a new government can begin.

Vetëvendosje is expected to have enough votes to form the government.

The main obstacle remains the presidency, which requires broader support and the participation of two-thirds of MPs.

The last failure to elect a president led to parliament’s dissolution and the June election. Kosovo could face another vote if parties fail again to reach a deal.
