A Greek F-16 fighter jet crash-landed at Zakynthos airport on Thursday, closing the runway at one of the country’s busiest summer holiday terminals.
The jet was on a training flight when it reported a technical problem and landed at about 1:45 p.m. local time, the air force said.
The pilot was not injured.
Greek media reported that the aircraft landed without its landing gear, slid along the runway and caught fire. The air force has not commented on those reports.
Video on social media showed the jet burning as firefighters worked to put out the flames.
The runway was closed after the incident, delaying flights at the start of the summer travel season.
An air force team was expected to travel to the island to remove the aircraft and allow airport operations to resume.
