Fuel suppliers in Albania will have to increase the share of renewable fuel used in transport from 2026.
The government has approved rules setting the first target at 1% of final transport energy use. The share must rise by at least 1 percentage point each year and reach at least 7% by the end of 2030.
The rules cover biofuels and other renewable transport fuels produced, sold or used in Albania.
Suppliers will have to prove that the fuels meet sustainability standards and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The decision also limits biofuels made from food and animal-feed crops, while giving more space to advanced biofuels and biogas.
The government says the rules bring Albania closer to European Union fuel standards.
