TIRANA, Oct. 23 — Albania’s energy regulator will raise electricity tariffs for electric-vehicle charging stations from November 1, prompting protests from taxi drivers over higher costs.
The new rates will be 22 lek (€0.23) per kilowatt-hour and 25.3 lek (€0.26) during peak hours. The Energy Regulatory Authority said the move aligns domestic tariffs with regional energy prices.
Taxi unions said the increase will cut daily earnings by about 20% and announced a peaceful protest in Tirana on Friday. Drivers say they cannot raise fares because taxi prices are set by the city council.
The change comes as Albania promotes electric mobility through tax breaks and an expanding charging network.
