More people could be banned from Albania, minister says

Albania could declare more people undesirable on national security grounds, Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari has said.

Lamallari told Euronews Albania that he receives dozens of requests each week from law enforcement agencies.

He said the cases may involve organised crime, serious offences, fraud or blackmail against Albanian citizens.

Lamallari said the government would not step back if people under review were also taking part in protests.

He said police and state institutions had a duty to apply the law and protect citizens, regardless of political pressure.

The comments come after recent government decisions to bar people it says pose a threat to national security.
