Families in Albania are paying some of the highest prices in Europe for milk, dairy products and eggs, according to new Eurostat figures.
Prices reached 135.6% of the EU average in 2025, almost the same level as Norway. That places Albania near the top of Europe for products that are part of the basic food basket.
The rise has been sharp. In 2022, prices were 112.3% of the EU average. By 2025, they were more than a third higher than the EU benchmark.
The gap is even clearer in the region. Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia all had lower prices.
The pressure has been driven by fewer livestock, higher animal feed costs, reliance on some imports and stronger demand from tourism.
