Albania launches national investment scheme to boost agriculture

Tirana, October 9, 2024 — The Albanian government is taking significant steps to support farmers through the National Investment Scheme, aimed at boosting local agricultural production.

During a presentation made today, Tirana mayor Erion Veliaj expressed his enthusiasm for the scheme, highlighting its potential benefits for farmers in the capital. "This initiative is a great help for all the farmers of Tirana," Veliaj stated.

The mayor announced the establishment of a new agro-processing and trade centre in Farka, positioned as a major hub for agricultural commerce. "Where there is a supermarket or the largest shopping centre in the republic, we now have the largest centre dedicated to agriculture," he added. Veliaj stressed that this represents the biggest investment in farming and agriculture to date.

Minister of Agriculture Anila Denaj reinforced the government's commitment to supporting farmers, stating that the initiative builds on previous efforts. "We are coming from a year that has launched and implemented a scheme of direct subsidies. This government fund aims to reduce farmers' costs annually," Denaj explained. She also provided details about an investment scheme designed to enhance production capacities in both agricultural and livestock farms.

Both Veliaj and Denaj urged farmers to apply for equipment that would facilitate their work on the farm. They highlighted the importance of registering with a tax identification number (NIPT) and submitting applications by November 8 to take advantage of this opportunity.
