Serbian List disputes Kosovo Serb rival’s seat

The Belgrade-backed Serbian List is trying to discredit the only reserved Serb seat in Kosovo’s parliament that it did not win.

Preliminary results from the 7 June election give Serbian List nine of the ten seats reserved for the Serb community. The remaining seat went to Nenad Rašić, a Kosovo Serb politician close to Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

Serbian List says Rašić’s mandate was won with votes from Albanians and does not represent Kosovo Serbs.

Rašić rejects the claim and says most of his votes came from Serbs and other non-majority communities.

Legal experts quoted by Radio Free Europe say the seat is valid because Kosovo voters can support any party.

The row exposes a deeper fight over who speaks for Kosovo Serbs: Belgrade’s party or Serb politicians willing to work with Pristina.
