Court jails 14 over Syria fighter recruitment

An Albanian anti-corruption and organised crime court has sentenced 14 people to a total of 112 years in prison over links to fighter recruitment for the war in Syria.

Prosecutors said the defendants took part in a terrorist organisation, while some were also convicted of fighting in a foreign conflict.

The harshest sentences, 10 years each, were given to Shyqyri Kaca and Saimir Kaca.

Several others received sentences of eight or nine years.

Two defendants were sentenced under juvenile justice rules, receiving five years and four years in prison.

The court ordered all 14 to serve their sentences in high-security prisons.
