Global pop star Dua Lipa has officially become a citizen of Kosovo.
One night before the Sunny Hill Festival in Pristina, she was welcomed by President Vjosa Osmani, who awarded her citizenship through a presidential decree.
Osmani called Dua “one of the most important cultural figures in our nation’s history” and praised her for inspiring millions around the world.
“Dua and Kosovo have always been inseparable,” the president said. “She continues to make history on the world stage and remains a powerful voice for our youth and our art.”
The singer, who was born in London to Kosovar Albanian parents, has long spoken proudly of her roots. The move is a powerful gesture of national recognition as well as personal gratitude.
