US troops to leave Iraq soon

American troops will completely withdraw from Iraq by September 30 under a new security transition plan.

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi confirmed the timeline during a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington.

Both leaders agreed that local security forces no longer require American military assistance to fight remaining terror factions.

As soldiers depart, the two countries plan to launch a major economic partnership focused on oil pipelines and energy investments.
