US envoys in Doha as Iran denies direct talks

US envoys have arrived in Qatar for meetings with mediators, as Iran denied it had agreed to direct talks with Washington.

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are in Doha to meet Qatari officials involved in efforts to ease tensions with Iran.

Qatar said the talks would cover regional issues, including Iran and Lebanon, but stressed they were not direct negotiations between the United States and Tehran.

Iran said it would also send a delegation to Qatar this week, but only to discuss the terms of an interim arrangement through mediators.

Donald Trump has said Iran requested a meeting with US officials in Doha, a claim Tehran has rejected.
