US attacks Iran for eighth straight night

The U.S. military attacked Iranian targets for an eighth straight night, focusing on coastal defenses and Revolutionary Guard forces.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operations aim to stop Iran from threatening commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump stated he ordered the strikes to punish the Guard after an attack in Jordan on July 17 killed two U.S. soldiers.

CENTCOM confirmed that 16 U.S. soldiers have died since fighting resumed in the region, with one soldier currently missing.

Iranian media reported that U.S. strikes hit the port city of Shirik and sites in Hormuzgan province, destroying a water pumping station and power equipment at a desalination plant. Iran's health ministry reported that U.S. attacks have killed at least 50 people and wounded over 500 since June 27.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, warned that his country has "unforgettable lessons" for the U.S. He accused Washington of breaking a June 17 agreement, saying the U.S. president's signature has no value.

Tehran said its forces attacked a U.S. airbase in Jordan and military sites in Kuwait, including radar systems and an airbase. Kuwaiti officials reported serious damage to an oil facility and a water and power plant. The Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the Iranian strikes as "war crimes."

Commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is now heavily restricted. The U.S. has also renewed its naval blockade on Iranian ports, just days after lifting it under the previous agreement.
