Albania’s economy minister has rejected claims that illegal drug money is behind the country’s strong national currency.
Minister Delina Ibrahimaj said official data explains the €8.5 billion entering the economy, pointing to €5.72 billion from tourism, €1.64 billion in foreign investment, and €1.12 billion in remittances.
She explained that this large supply of euros naturally raises the value of the local lek in a small financial market, accusing critics of ignoring basic economics.
