Starmer defends two-year record as he hands UK premiership to Burnham

Outgoing UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer defended his two-year record on leaving office, declaring Britain is a "stronger and fairer" country as he handed power to fellow Labour politician Andy Burnham.

In his final speech outside 10 Downing Street, Starmer said he was stepping down with pride for his administration's achievements.

"The United Kingdom is stronger and fairer today than it was two years ago. I leave with a smile and proud of everything we have achieved," Starmer said.

He now formally transfers leadership of the British government to Burnham, keeping the premiership within the Labour Party.
