Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has rejected protesters who chant “Berisha in prison” during daily rallies in central Tirana.
Berisha said Democrats were taking part in the protest as citizens, not under party symbols.
He called the anti-Berisha slogans desperate cries from what he described as “the opposition of the opposition”.
The chants have exposed an awkward split inside the protest movement.
Berisha is presenting Democrats as part of the rallies, while some protesters are using the same space to demand his imprisonment.
He said those slogans had nothing to do with genuine civic or youth ideals.
