New parks aim to put Albania in Europe’s supply chains

Albania is moving ahead with several industrial and logistics parks after years of slow progress.

Projects near Tirana, Durrës, Porto Romano and Vlora are being promoted as bases for companies serving European markets.

The push comes as European firms look to bring production and logistics closer to home after the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and wider geopolitical tensions.

German retailer Lidl is building a logistics centre in Porto Romano that could connect Albanian producers with European supply chains.

Other projects are targeting data centres, medical equipment, technology services and logistics.

But land disputes, weak infrastructure and a shortage of skilled workers remain major obstacles.
