Joint Albania–Kosovo police patrols start amid summer tourism surge

As summer tourism ramps up, the State Police of Albania and Kosovo have signed a cooperation memorandum to launch joint road policing across Albanian territory starting July 1.

The agreement, signed by Albanian State Police Director Ilir Proda and Kosovo Police Director Gazmend Hoxha, aims to improve road safety, manage traffic flow on key cross-border routes, and promote exchange of best policing practices.

Proda highlighted the joint patrols as a symbol of “harmonious coordination” between the two forces, enhancing not only road safety but also broader efforts against crime. Hoxha said Kosovo officers feel honored to serve alongside their Albanian counterparts and will fully commit to the initiative.

The joint operations, timed with increased vehicle and visitor traffic from Kosovo, are expected to improve safety and mobility across major Albanian highways during the peak tourist season.
