Ruling party calls for an investigation into former lady's ties with Russian oligarchs

The ruling Socialist Party has called on the country’s judiciary to investigate former leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration and former first lady, Monika Kryemadhi, following the publication of a number of documents which implicate her in payments made by Russian companies.

In a statement on Sunday, the vice chairman of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Toni Gogu, raised several questions in relation to these suspicious payments and the fact that Kryemadhi has not declared them.

The Socialist Party urged the former first lady to explain her travels abroad and the transactions in her account.

According to the Socialist Party, the released documents ruin Albania’s image in the international arena. Meanwhile, the ruling party has considered the evidence which has been made public as a wakeup call for national security.  The socialist official said Russia has extended its influence in order to create a pro-Russian region.

A few days ago, media outlets released several documents which involved Monika Kryemadhi in payments made by Russian oligarchs through offshore companies.
