Albania’s main opposition party has submitted a legal package to parliament seeking to cancel several laws used for major development projects.
The Democratic Party says the package is linked to public concern over tourism projects, protected areas, public land and cultural heritage.
It wants to cancel the strategic investment law, reverse changes to the protected areas law, repeal the mountain development package and remove parts of the cultural heritage law.
Democratic Party parliamentary leader Gazment Bardhi said the laws give too much power to the government and weaken public protection.
He called on ruling party MPs to support the proposals.
The move comes amid protests over disputed coastal tourism projects.
