Opposition says supporters can join citizen protests

Albania’s main opposition leader Sali Berisha says Democratic Party supporters will continue joining citizen protests, but senior party figures should avoid making them look party-controlled.

Berisha said the party supports protests it considers fair, including those against the disputed tourism project near Zvërnec.

He said the Democratic Party had considered calling a national protest, but decided not to compete with daily citizen demonstrations.

Berisha also repeated allegations over land ownership linked to the Zvërnec project, claiming people close to Prime Minister Edi Rama had benefited.

Rama says property disputes linked to the project should be settled by the courts.
