Costa calls EU enlargement strategic for Europe

European Council President António Costa says EU enlargement is a strategic need for Europe after a visit to Tirana.

In a post on X, Costa said Albania’s latest accession conference had confirmed progress in its EU membership talks.

He urged Albania to keep reform momentum as it moves through the next stage of negotiations.

Costa said enlargement was an investment in peace, stability and security at a time of geopolitical uncertainty.

Albania is aiming to close EU accession talks by the end of 2027.
