Albania’s opposition leader Sali Berisha has told Democratic Party supporters to join the Tirana protest, despite chants from some demonstrators demanding his arrest.
The protest began over a disputed coastal tourism project near Zvërnec and has now entered its tenth day.
Berisha told party MPs that Democrats should attend without party flags or logos, saying the rally should remain civic and youth-led.
The move is politically awkward for Berisha, whose party has struggled to shape the protest.
Some demonstrators have chanted “Berisha to prison”, while also demanding the government’s resignation.
Berisha criticised the protest in its early days, but now says opposition supporters should take part.
