Beleri's case belongs to the justice system, Albanian FM says

The Beleri case is a case for the justice system and not for the Albanian government and as such, the justice system must be allowed to do its job.

This was the message given by Albania's foreign minister Igli Hasani from Brussels during the 17th meeting of EU-Albania Stabilization-Association Parliamentary Committee.

Asked why Fredi Beleri is not being allowed to be sworn in as mayor of Himare, Hasani said this is a case for the judicial system, adding that "the time when the government interfered in the judiciary is long gone".

Beleri, an ethnic Greek, has been incarcerated pending trial since May on vote-buying charges after his arrest on the eve of municipal elections which he won against the Socialist candidate.
