Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has defended luxury resort development in Zvërnec, a sensitive coastal area in southern Albania.
Rama said Albania should not reject foreign investment if it brings more income, jobs and wider economic activity.
He said luxury resorts were not built only for wealthy foreign visitors, but helped create demand for services, infrastructure and local spending.
Zvërnec, near the port city of Vlora, is known for its lagoon, coastal habitats and biodiversity. Possible development there has drawn concern from environmental groups and local opponents.
Rama said Albania needed higher-value tourism and described luxury resorts as “factories” for the economy.
