US and Iran trade strikes near Strait of Hormuz

The United States says it has struck Iranian military sites after what it called aggressive action by Tehran near the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command said the strikes hit radar, drone control sites and air defences in southern Iran.

It said the action followed the shooting down of a US drone over international waters.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they responded by targeting an air base used by US forces.

Kuwait, which hosts American troops, said its air defences were responding to missile and drone attacks.

The exchange comes as talks on a wider US-Iran deal remain stalled.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global oil and gas shipments.
