Kurti says Kosovo did not need early election

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said the country did not need the 7 June early election and that the result proved his point.

Speaking at the first in-person government meeting since the vote, Kurti said citizens had spoken clearly and that the result must be accepted and respected.

He said work on forming new institutions would begin after the election result is certified.

That includes the new parliament, a new government and the election of Kosovo’s next president.

Kurti had argued before the vote that early elections were unnecessary.

He said the result showed voters had again made their position clear.
