More Albanians are using the internet, but the country still has one of the weakest fixed broadband rates in South East Europe, according to a regional report.
Internet use reached 85.9% of the population in 2024, up from 68.6% in 2019. That puts Albania close to the regional average of 86.8%.
Fixed broadband tells a different story. Albania had 24.9 subscriptions for every 100 people, below the South East Europe average of 32.
The gap matters because internet use does not always mean fast or reliable access. Fixed broadband is more important for homes, schools, offices, businesses and online public services.
The report says the region’s next digital challenge is no longer basic access, but faster and more reliable internet.
