IMF sees stable outlook for economy

The International Monetary Fund says Albania’s economy remains stable, but warns that global risks still need close attention.

An IMF team visited Tirana for talks with the Bank of Albania on growth, inflation, monetary policy and financial stability.

The Fund said the economy had continued to cope with external shocks, helped by stronger activity, employment and wages.

It also gave a positive assessment of the banking sector, citing strong capital levels, liquidity and loan quality.

The IMF said monetary policy remained appropriate for keeping inflation under control.

But it pointed to longer-term challenges, including demographics, productivity and the impact of Albania’s EU accession process.
