Fewer Albanians choose agriculture degrees

Fewer young Albanians are choosing to study agriculture, even as the sector moves towards more modern farming.

The Agricultural University of Tirana says enrolment has fallen in agronomy, agricultural engineering, animal science and fisheries.

University officials say many school-leavers still think agriculture means traditional farm work.

They say that view is outdated because farming is becoming more digital and technology-based.

Interest has grown in veterinary medicine, water engineering and environmental studies.

The university is now changing its courses, with fewer lectures and more practical work in fields and laboratories.

The shift is meant to bring studies closer to the jobs Albania’s agriculture sector now needs.
