Business property tax could rise by 25%

Businesses in Albania could pay up to 25% more in building tax under a new property tax draft.

The Finance Ministry wants to raise the tax rate for buildings used for business.

The current rate is 0.2% of the property value.

The draft would let local authorities set rates between 0.15% and 0.25%.

It would also change how business properties are valued.

Shops would no longer be valued through a formula linked to apartment prices.

Their tax would instead be based on new average shop values in Albania’s property value map.

That could raise annual bills for many commercial properties, especially in Tirana.
