Rama says Flamingo protest became fight against Trump

Prime Minister Edi Rama says the “Flamingo Revolution” protest over a planned resort in southern Albania has turned into an international political fight against Donald Trump.

In an interview with Italian news agency Italpress, Rama rejected the claims made against the project.

He said no final agreement had been signed.

He said negotiations were still under way and no construction permit had been issued for a separate development on private land.

Rama argued that the accusations had damaged Albania’s image and had not been backed by evidence.

He said he understood why people had protested if they believed the claims made about the project.

But he said the flamingos had now become a symbol used to push the dispute beyond Albania.

Rama also defended Albania’s EU path and the migrant agreement with Italy.
