Albania holds little gold in reserves

Albania holds one of the lowest shares of gold in its foreign currency reserves in the region, according to data cited by BestBrokers.

The report says Albania had 3.73 tonnes of gold in February.

That made up 6.4% of the country’s total foreign reserves.

Among nearby countries in the report, Serbia had a much higher gold share, at 24.4%, while North Macedonia stood at 16.8%.

Only Bosnia and Herzegovina had a lower share than Albania, at 5.4%.

Albania also had a low level of gold per person, at about 1.6 grams.

The Bank of Albania has benefited from higher gold prices and has also bought more gold for its reserves.
