Albania faces slower growth as energy prices rise

Albania faces slower economic growth in 2026 as higher energy prices put pressure on households and businesses, the World Bank has warned.

The bank expects Albania’s economy to grow by 3.4%, down from a year earlier.

The pressure comes from the conflict in the Middle East, which has pushed up global energy prices and raised fears of new inflation.

The risk is more direct for Albania because it imports more energy than it exports.

Higher energy prices could mean higher bills for households and higher costs for businesses.

The World Bank expects global growth to fall to 2.5% in 2026, the weakest rate since the Covid-19 pandemic.

It warned that growth could fall further if energy supplies are badly disrupted.
