Ombudsmen agree cross-border help for citizens

The ombudsmen of Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia have agreed to help citizens who face problems across the three countries’ borders.

The agreement was signed in Prizren, in Kosovo.

It covers people who live, work, study, travel or seek services in more than one of the three countries.

The offices will look at problems with healthcare, civil documents, family decisions, personal papers and university diplomas.

They will also cover seasonal workers and vulnerable groups, including children living or working on the streets.

Albanian Ombudsman Endrit Shabani said the aim was to check whether government agreements were actually working for ordinary people.

The three offices will publish a joint yearly report on human rights in the region.
