Donald Trump says the US and China reached “fantastic” trade deals during his visit to Beijing, but he has not given firm details.
The US president held more talks with Xi Jinping before leaving China, as both sides try to calm tensions after last year’s trade war.
Trump said China had agreed to buy US aircraft, farm goods and oil. His team also said the two countries discussed setting up trade and investment boards to manage economic ties.
Iran was also discussed. Trump said both leaders wanted the Strait of Hormuz reopened and claimed Xi had promised not to send military equipment to Tehran.
Taiwan remained the hardest issue, with Chinese state media saying Xi warned of conflict if Washington handled it badly.
