Ebola fears grow in DR Congo

People near the centre of a new Ebola outbreak in DR Congo say they are scared as health officials warn the virus may be spreading faster than first thought.

The outbreak has killed 131 people, with more than 513 suspected cases reported in the country.

One person has also died in neighbouring Uganda.

A WHO official said investigations suggest the virus has reached other areas and crossed at least one border.

Researchers in London warned the real number of cases could be much higher than reported.

There is no vaccine for the strain behind the latest outbreak.

The WHO has declared the outbreak an international emergency and is sending protective equipment and medicine to DR Congo.
