US Embassy issues safety alert over protests in Tirana

The US Embassy in Tirana advised American citizens to avoid ongoing protests in Albania, warning that large gatherings can change quickly and disrupt roads and traffic.

The embassy said nightly demonstrations continue outside the prime minister’s office on Deshmoret e Kombit Boulevard in central Tirana. It said additional protests could take place in the coming days, including in other cities.

The notice said police presence, road closures, detours and traffic disruption should be expected before and during protests.

US citizens were advised to stay alert, monitor local media, follow police instructions, keep a low profile and have an exit plan.
