Kosovo veterans threaten protests over KLA verdict

Kosovo war veterans threatened protests after a Hague court set September 16 for the verdict in the trial of former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi.

Hysni Gucati, head of the KLA veterans’ group, accused the court of dragging out the case and said protests would continue in Pristina.

Artan Behrami, an elected lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, also called for rallies in Pristina and The Hague on the day of the verdict if the four men are convicted.

The former KLA leaders have been in detention since November 2020. Prosecutors have asked for 45-year prison sentences in the war crimes case.
