Minister promises review for disputed coastal project

A disputed coastal project in southern Albania will have to have an environmental review before any decision is made, the environment minister has said.

Sofjan Jaupaj was speaking to European Parliament members after concerns over possible development in Zvërnec, near Vlora.

The area includes lagoon and coastal habitats and is known for its biodiversity.

Jaupaj said any project would have to follow the law, include public consultation and meet EU environmental standards.

He said protecting biodiversity would remain a priority.
