Former police officer sentenced to 18 years for child's boat accident death

May 22, 2024 -  Vlora District Court has handed down an 18-year prison sentence to former police officer Arjan Tase for his involvement in a tragic boat accident that claimed the life of 7-year-old Jonada Avdia.

The incident, which occurred two years ago on Himara's Potami Beach, sent shockwaves across Albania.

Outrage over the tragedy caused by a police official led to widespread calls for justice. In response, all heads of the Vlora Border Police Department were dismissed.
