Amnesty bill expected in parliament within weeks

Albania is moving closer to an amnesty that could release some prisoners and cut sentences for others.

Justice Minister Toni Gogu said the draft law had reached parliament and should be discussed in the coming weeks.

The Justice Ministry is preparing changes that could widen the number of people who benefit.

They could include more women prisoners and all those sentenced up to May 2026.

The amnesty could also cover people serving probation.

Those investigated by SPAK or tried by Albania’s special anti-corruption court would not be included.
