France and Argentina open with wins as World Cup groups take shape

France and Argentina made winning starts to their World Cup campaigns, while Norway and Austria also collected three points in the opening round of Group I and Group J matches.

France beat Senegal 3-1 and Norway overcame Iraq 4-1, leaving both sides level at the top of Group I ahead of their meeting in the next round.

Argentina were equally comfortable, beating Algeria 3-0 to begin Group J on top. Austria kept pace with a 3-1 win over Jordan.
