MPs demand Serbian minister sacked

More than fifty Serbian MPs have demanded the prime minister fire a cabinet member who said she would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo.

Shaip Kamberi, the only Albanian lawmaker in Serbia's parliament, led the petition calling for Snezhana Paunovic to lose her job immediately.

He warned Prime Minister Djuro Macut that keeping her in office means the government supports expelling people based on ethnicity.

Other minority parties backing the government refused to sign the demand, leaving the ruling coalition to decide her fate.

The dispute follows intense regional backlash and European Union leaders questioning why the minister still holds public office.
