Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has called the first meeting of Kosovo’s new parliament for early August, racing to beat the August 7 constitutional deadline.
Haxhiu said she is giving political parties extra time to strike a deal before the session begins.
She is determined to avoid a 60-day freeze in electing a new president, which would leave the country stuck in political limbo.
Haxhiu warned that if parties fail to agree, Kosovo could be pushed into snap elections, a scenario she says would solve nothing for the public.
She has urged all MPs to attend the opening session, stressing that the country needs a functioning government rather than more political drama.
